Quantcast seeks a passionate and skilled network engineer to bring proven experience and knowledge in large-scale network design, networking protocols, and best practices to our tight-knit Data Center Infrastructure group–the team charged with the design, build-out, and operation of Quantcast’s corporate, data processing, and mission-critical Internet production systems.
We have built one of the largest computing infrastructures on the planet, collecting a constant stream of data from over 30+ billion events a day, across 25+ million directly-measured websites. In addition to this global network, Quantcast has engineered a world-class, 1000+ node mapreduce cluster, processing an average of 6PB of data every day for various machine learning and data mining applications.
The ideal candidate for this role will be excited at this type of scale, possessing a knack for network design and experience leveraging the latest internet routing techniques (e.g. BGP, anycast), in order to take the helm of our global CDN to improve its latency and availability worldwide.
This individual will be cognizant of cost implications, leading the design and implementation of HPC cluster networks to achieve the highest bandwidth compute power at the lowest price.
Lastly, this person will be an active proponent
of industry best practices to maintain and expand our corporate IT network.
Being proactive, organized, and flexible are all highly valued characteristics, as we work within a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment and operate a massive-scale, complex network that pushes uninterrupted, ‘firehose’ traffic.
Responsibilities:
-Expand existing anycast BGP network to new datacenters in new regions globally
-Lead technical direction of BGP peering, directly and via Internet Exchanges
-Develop tools to monitor latency of the network and troubleshoot problems
-Interface with engineering groups to provide insight into network performance
-Design and troubleshoot high-performance cluster networks, including up to the OS layer
-Maintain and expand corporate network services, including upkeep and config of leased lines at remote offices, IPSec, and OSPF routing
-Participate in 24×7 rotating on-call roster
Requirements:
-BS in Computer Science, Computer Networks, related field, or equivalent industry experience
-Thorough knowledge of BGP and its use in Anycast and traffic engineering
-Knowledge of common internet peering arrangements and the network backbone
-Familiarity working with NCCs and network providers to allocate numbering resources
-Experience with IT-related network configuration such as OSPF/IPSec to provide site-to-site connectivity
-Comfortable with Linux
-Scripting skills in Bash/Shell, Python, Perl, or Ruby a plus
